Summary of Position:

The Senior Insurance Accountant is responsible for assisting to oversee the accounting process and ensure accuracy of financial transactions. This position will work closely with the Controller to ensure the integrity of the financial statements. Responsibilities include general ledger maintenance, accounting and internal auditing functions, review and supervisor of the accounting assistant’s tasks.

Essential Duties & Job Responsibilities

  • Maintain the accuracy and productivity of day-to-day activities including accounts payable, cash disbursements, invoicing/billing, customer credits and collections, reconciliations, fixed asset records, payroll, intercompany transactions, etc.
  • Prepare monthly statutory and GAAP financial statements
  • Prepare and file NAIC Annual Statement, Quarterly statements and supplemental filings.
  • Prepare workpapers and obtain client assist requests for annual Independent Financial Audit.
  • Prepare and file all premium tax filings for multiple states.
  • Review of the municipal tax filings for multiple states.
  • Prepare investment schedules tracking holdings/sales/purchases.
  • Act as a resource for other team members.
  • Prepare certain reinsurance billings and workpapers.
  • Assist with monthly income tax calculation and journal entries.
  • Assist with financial budget preparation.
  • Test accounting, claims and underwriting reports for accuracy and proper implementation of controls.
  • Assist in development of policies and procedures. Maintain files in accordance to policies and procedures guidelines.
  • Perform adhoc projects and assist in all areas of accounting operations as assigned by management.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. 2 to 3 years of accounting experience. Insurance experience a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail. Demonstrate organizational and time management skills with the ability to perform several tasks concurrently with ease and professionalism.
  • Able to work independently and efficiently. Able to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to follow policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Ability to handle confidential information in a discreet and professional manner.
  • Proficient in Windows based software. Strong Excel skills required.
